Reconciling Loss Aversion and Gain Seeking in Judged Emotions

چکیده
Is the pain of a loss greater in magnitude than pleasure comparable gain? Studies that compare positive feelings about gain with negative have found mixed answers to this question. The can be than, less or equal gain. We offer new approach test hedonic aversion. This method uses emotional reactions reference point, change, and change. When we manipulated point (i.e., pleasurable painful), two distinct patterns emerged. Pain surpassed (loss aversion) when was positive, exceeded (gain seeking) negative. A reference-dependent version prospect theory accounts for results. If carriers utility are changes from point—not necessarily status quo—both aversion seeking predicted. Loss reconciled if you take starting into account.

Emotions and information seeking: how does emotion manifest in infor-mation seeking behavior?
Background and Aim: Information seeking behavior arises when one feels a void in his/her knowledge which inspires one to acquire new information. The central point in explaining behavior is the fact that many features influence its occurrence, and emotions are considered to be a major element involved in human information behavior. Also, Information seeking is a positive and negative emotional...
متن کاملLoss aversion and perceptionally risk aversion
This paper analyzes, for S-shaped value functions, the relations between loss aversion and perceptionally risk aversion (i.e. computed with the perceived probability weights) in Cumulative Prospect Theory . We show that perceptionally risk aversion for mixed sign lotteries is equivalent to weak (or strong) loss aversion, so this is the right assumption to get a sensible behavior towards risk. T...
متن کاملRisk aversion and loss aversion in core-selecting auctions
Core-selecting combinatorial auctions have been introduced as an alternative to the Vickrey-Clarke-Groves (VCG) mechanism because VCG results in payments that are not in the core with respect to bids, leading to unfair payments, unacceptably low revenues, and unstable outcomes. This raises an auction selection problem for an auctioneer deciding whether to employ a core-selecting auction or VCG ...
متن کاملCeDEx Discussion Paper No. 2008–13 Loss Aversion and Rent-Seeking: An Experimental Study
We report an experiment designed to evaluate the impact of loss aversion on rent-seeking contests. We find, as theoretically predicted, a negative relationship between rent-seeking expenditures and loss aversion. However, for any degree of loss aversion, levels of rent-seeking expenditure are higher than predicted. Moreover, we find that the effect of loss aversion becomes weaker with repetitio...
متن کاملLoss Aversion in Repeated Games
The Nash equilibrium solution concept for strategic form games is based on the assumption of expected utility maximization. Reference dependent utility functions (in which utility is determined not only by an outcome, but also by the relationship of the outcome to a reference point) are a better predictor of behavior than expected utility. In a repeated situation, the value of the previous payo...
